Aptly pegged “a compact fireball” (La Scena Musicale), multi-genre artist Sharon Lee gave her violin concerto debut at the age of ten with the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra. Sharon is recognized for her innovative and thoughtful program curation and presentation as Co-Artistic Director of the Toronto Concert Orchestra, and Music Director of the Korean Canadian Symphony Orchestra. Sharon’s primary conducting inspiration comes from the late Maestro Kerry Stratton, with whom she worked closely since her appointment as Concertmaster of the Toronto Concert Orchestra in 2014. Sharon was invited to the studio of Lorand Fenyves at the age of sixteen and received the Lorand Fenyves String Scholarship at the University of Toronto. She was the recipient of the Dean’s Scholarship at Indiana University where she studied with Ik-Hwan Bae and the recipient of the Orford String Quartet Award from the Ontario Arts Council. A friend of new music, Sharon has premiered an estimated 150 new works to date. Sharon was a full-time string quartet artist in her tender years, touring Canada through Jeunesses Musicales, and was a semi-finalist in the Melbourne International Competition. Sharon also champions other genres and is a YAMAHA Canada Artist as an electric violinist with the group Devah. Her last shows prior to the pandemic included concertmaster for Josh Groban, Michael Buble, and Trans Siberian Orchestra tours, and was concertmaster for the Cuphead 2 soundtrack, recorded over the pandemic. Sharon’s training includes fellowships at Aspen Music Festival, New York String Orchestra Seminar, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Masterclass, and participation at the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar and Great Mountain Music Festival in Korea. Sharon contributes to the next generation as an adjudicator for Kiwanis Music Festivals and clinician for Ontario Music Educators Association.
