Victor Cheng is in popular demand as a collaborative pianist, having worked with the National Ballet of Canada, the Glenn Gould School of Music, the RCM, and UofT.
Victor has been in recital with trombonists Joseph Alessi, Nitzan Haroz, Colin Williams, and Michael Mulcahy. In 2016 Victor was a collaborative pianist for the Wieniawski Competition, judged by violinist Maxim Vengerov. He has been in recital with guzheng artists Madam Zhou Wang and Ms. Zhang Shan, and in 2011 was on tour with erhuist George Gao. As a soloist, he made his debut performing “Illumination”, a concerto for piano, percussion, and strings, composed by Kevin Lau. Victor and Kevin gave a concert of all piano duets in October 2018 at the Richmond Hill Centre for Performing Arts. Recently, Victor returned from two contracts with the Holland America Line, playing chamber music onboard cruise ships.
Victor has a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Piano Performance from UofT, studying with Dave Restivo. He is also an orchestral and choral conductor. In 2007, Victor co-founded the Sneak Peek Orchestra with pianist/composer Kevin Lau. Victor and Kevin can be found on YouTube, performing Kevin’s piano duet arrangements of popular movie and tv show themes.
